hey all, was just wondering how many of you are into Martial arts.
I've had some training in Karate and Shaolin Kung Fu
I took one of them things back in that crazy ass skool I wint to.
I've not stuck with one for very long (not for most of them because I didn't want to, but because of other life commitments.) So far I've tried karate, a bit of judo (though I didn't really get to participate with that one long enough to get a real good idea of it), kung fu, and aikido. I liked the karate well enough, but it's been a long time since I took it and I don't really remember much about it. The kung fu wasn't for me; though there are multiple types (and I sadly don't remember which this was), it was more forms, where I think I'm more meant for more of a grappling art. Aikido I liked well enough, but I'm told (and it seems like it's likely true) that it takes longer to learn aikido than a lot of the other arts.
Someday I do want to learn a martial art though. I've been told that I should look into some of the jujitsu (maybe misspelled sorry) arts.
yeah, there are lots of different arts out there
What'd you think of the ones you've tried AZN_guy?
I thought that both arts were very good, although I might try to learn some different ones in the future. Who knows, maybe my opinion will change
I'm into Judo, but I've not been to practice. I live in Delaware and practice is in Philadelphia, so it's hard to get there on Saturday's because transportation in Delaware sucks, so trying to get Judo in Delaware.
I'd like to learn karate, but my dad has a legitimate excuse for not letting me learn. He doesn't want ot see me get hurt. Hell, I don't want ot get hurt. lol I'd just like to find some form of exercise other than walking, puch-ups and al the other ones out there.
I tried Judo but have bad balance so kept falling down. Also tried Tai chi but had to give it up cause my bloody stupid college suspended me for no reason! Um, would like to go back to Tai chi again its just getting round to it. Will probably do in the new year.
Ray Ray! Nice addition to the Sports Bar.
Well, I've had some Shoulin Kemp training and I did a style of Kick Boxing that involved martial arts. Hey Ray, remember Sensay's 10 Point Crunches? I miss those. l.o.l.
I've studied the martial arts off and in for a little over fifteen years. I have a brown belt in shotokan karate. I've also studied, kung fu, taekwondo, judo, jujitsu, ikido, fencing, and took the rape agressive defense course with the police department.
I have a good friend who has his black belt in shotokan. I am very interested in the martial arts, but there are so many of them, and I've never found a good place that explains the differences in some of them. I think I'd be more likely to join something if it didn't seem like there was this overwhelming field of possibilities that I know so little about any of.
I really want to learn judo!!!!
hapkeido, not the MMA crap, but the actual circular hapkeido... the place is great, the instructer is great, and that whole place is like a tiny little very odd family, we have way too much fun.. will be going for my blackbelt in the fall, and that makes me very very happy. they pik on the blind kid, but i pick right back. it's the only place i don't mind the blind humor.. yay..
hmm, and to add to this, i have gotten my blackbelt in october 9th 2010 so that makes me very happy. it was the hardest test of my life, but i did it.
I'm huge into MMA, so the martial arts i've been doing is mostly MMA friendly stuff. I am doing brazillian jiu jitsu, muay thai, boxing, and wrestling... Although I have been wrestling since 6th grade and boxed for a long time, i've been getting the best results in BJJ and muay thai.. Kenny and Keith Florian are absolutely amazing instructors out here in Boston and I am not one to advertise, but if you want to learn martial arts without feeling as if you need to make it number one in your life then it is the perfect place, plus they are more then happy for peple to come by just to check it out...
I swear it is like a family
